While the keyboard is sufficient to operate all of the key systems, we highly recommend a game pad with an analog stick for much finer control. In addition it is nice to have force feedback support (often called "rumbles" in game pads), so that you can feel your ship slowly getting blown to pieces instead of just seeing it, it just makes the game that much more immersive (and it's easy to mistake this game for reality, believe you me).
Fortunately most of the controls can be customized to your taste. The default keyboard configuration is shown below. In order to view or change the keyboard/joystick key mappings and settings, you can access the menu below from the Galactic Gladiator Launcher by clicking "Controllers".
Following is a short list of what the above actions mean:
| Left / Right / Up / Down | Control the movement of your ship. Useful for targeting enemies and evading incoming fire, but not altogether necessary if you're just "that good". |
| Fire | Fire primary weapons. |
| Missiles | Fire missiles. |
| Toggle Dual-Single Missiles | Toggle whether to fire two or one missile(s) at a time. Using single-fire can be advantageous since it generally wastes fewer missles, however it does take much more practice to master than the dual-fire mode. In addition, dual-fire can inflict more damage in a single volley, which is useful against stronger enemies. |
| Select | Choose menu options. |
| Menu / Cancel | Bring up the menu while in-game, cancel the current action, or go back to the previous control in the menu. |
Memorize these controls (or change them to something that you can remember) because you will be tested!
