Submission of high scores is now working again. Note that the developers will be added back onto the scores list soon, so you'll have some stiff competition in the coming weeks :)
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Our web hosts have recently upgraded their servers and it seems to have messed up the OHSS submission. Rest assured we are working to sort out the problem as soon as possible: thanks for your patience.
Hey all! A few community updates today.
First of all, we've received a very positive review on Ytanium, "a very young site on QUALITY freeware games". For more information, check out the new Reviews page.
Secondly although we've been fairly quiet recently, that's due in part to school exams, and also us taking a small rest period after working so hard to get version 1.0.0 released. Rest assured that we've been considering additions, such as a second level and online competitions. Keep checking back, and let us know what you'd like to see on the Forums.
As a final update, the entrants to the IGF Competition (and Student Showcase) have been posted, and it looks like there are a lot of quality games there for you to check out. We'll know if we are selected as one of the top ten in early January, but regardless of what happens, we'd like to applaud the other entrants for producing such good quality games this year!
Keep on gaming! Someone has got to displace mariachi82 from his #1 ranking on the OHSS :)
First off, the game has been posted as the "Image of the Day" (IOTD) at Flipcode today, which is a game development site. You can see that short article (and comments) here.
Overall the response to GG has been very encouraging, with hundreds of downloads today. Many people seem to enjoy the game, although several people have commented about the difficulty. Our suggestion on that front is to begin with some of the easy challenges like "Lasers 1", "Torpedoes 1" and "Beams 1" just to get used to the game and the weapons systems. "Level 1" - while not extremely difficult - may be a bit much for someone who has never played the game before. Also remember that it's much easier with a gamepad + analog stick, so do your best to get ahold of one of them.
The last note is that there have been very few submissions to the online high score database so far. We'd encourage you guys to go ahead and submit, as it's one of the coolest features of the game, and very easy to use! Hint: Skirmishes are the best place to get "ranking points" :)
Finally do feel free to post comments, suggestions and just general discussion on the forums. While it's nice to think that none of you have had any technical issues yet, we do invite you to come and chat with us and let us know your thoughts. We'll be running some polls there in the future if there is enough interest on getting various features into the game, etc.
So just wanted to wrap up the day by saying thanks to everyone who has downloaded and commented on the game so far! Your support is very encouraging to us. Keep on gaming!
Galactic Gladiator has now been submitted to the Independant Games Festival Student Showcase! If we are selected as one of the top 10, we will have the opportunity to showcase the game at the Game Developers Conference in March 2005.
Thanks to everyone who has helped us so far: now get uploading those high scores and give the IGF judges some competition ;)
Version 1.0.1 has been released! It corrects a minor (probably insignificant) bug, but more importantly it includes a new challenge "Missiles". So get downloading and be the first one to submit the completion of the new challenge to the OHSS!
The new website has been launched, and version 1.0.0 has been released! Thanks to all who have helped us get this far, even if you were initially skeptical that we could pull it off :)
Anyways we hope that you enjoy all of the new features of the site, including the revamped online high score system. If you have any questions or just general feedback, feel free to use the (all new, and very spiffy) forums. Please report any typos or other errors or omissions that you notice.
In the new few days we will be submitting our application for entry into the Student Showcase of the Independant Games Festival (IGF). As well, we'll finally be actively advertising the existence of Galactic Gladiator, and you are all encouraged to do so as well.
So thanks again to everyone involved in the development: it's been a long run, but well worth it I think. Only time and feedback will tell for sure I suppose.
Happy gaming!
